An alternative to a monophonic ringtone is a polyphonic ringtone. These ring tones are where you can play more than one sound at a time. Monophonic ringtones were the first to become available. However, as technology progresses polyphonic ringtones became available and are now the most popular.

Some older phones are still unable to play polyphonic ringtones and this is where monophonic ringtones are needed. There is an alternative however. You can always upgrade your phone so that you do not have to use a monophonic ring to. This alternative may be more expensive so take your pick according to your budget.

Technically speaking, a polyphonic ringtone can play up to 40 different notes simultaneously. A monophonic ringtone can only play one note at a time. My personal preference is obviously for a polyphonic ringtone. So my recommendation to you is that if you have a phone only capable of playing monophonic ringtones, get rid of it and by and up-to-date phone.
